Thread Title: Hyperfocal Length

Nancie Clark   Nancie Clark
I'll start with a question. Hyperfocal length has been my biggest struggle with landscapes. Everything looks in focus on my teeny tiny screen. Then I get home and it's not. Does anyone use a hyperfocal length meter (app)? Do you just take several shots focusing in different places? Or focus stack?

I'm open to any suggestions. Or new things to try.

Thanks!   Posted: 05/30/2020 10:44:52

I know PhotoPills has a hyperfocal distance calculator but I've never used it. Depending on the circumstances, I will focus for infinity, focus directly on my main subject, or focus stack - and I still don't always get it right.

I'm also finding that my aging eyes just don't work as well as I'd like sometimes, even with my glasses.   Posted: 05/30/2020 11:30:09

I'll look into PhotoPills. I do the same. Lately I take shots focusing through the scene hoping I get it right. I know f-stop obviously has a lot to do with it, but I'm usually at f/13 - f/16.

I totally understand on the eyes! The day I had to put readers in my camera bag was a sad day.

Thanks for your input. Please feel free to start your own thread if you have a question.   Posted: 05/30/2020 17:10:49
