Tulsi Jumping by Robin Mellor

October 2025 - Tulsi Jumping

About the Image(s)

Tulsi was a model I photographed quite a lot a few years ago. One session we spilled out into the garden and had a fun time doing various poses. I thought of how Philip Halsman used to get his famous models to jump, so we tried a few of these. I think this one worked quite well because Tulsi managed to keep her body straight, echoing the trees. Time moves on; the trees became too large and had to be felled, and Tulsi grew up and moved to Australia.

I love the combination of the verticals of the trees and the tall jumping model who appears to be enjoying herself.   Posted: 10/05/2025 22:14:55

Robin, this is a really different kind of model shot and one which has really paid off. The somewhat stiff and stretched pose of this slim model is a perfect match for the trees. I like the fact that she has her arms stiffly placed at her sides and the wave in her hair adds a certain movement to the shot. A good idea well executed.   Posted: 10/12/2025 08:32:04

Nice shot, Robin. You caught the jump perfectly as Tulsi's feet were off the ground and her hair was flowing. Nicely composed. The subject is sharp and stands out against the texture of the forest. I like it. Good job.   Posted: 10/13/2025 22:00:59

Robin--The fact that Tulsi and the trees all convey verticality really works for me. The combination of her profile, the hand, and the bare foot is nice. I love that she is not touching the ground. Even her shirt shows movement which is an interesting element.   Posted: 10/19/2025 16:18:43
