Memorial Teddy bear by Jared Haynes

October 2025 - Memorial Teddy bear

About the Image(s)

My settings were 50mm f1.8 ISO 100 1/60 shutter speed. I shot this at the bombing memorial in Oklahoma City. I saw the teddy bear on the fence and I thought how sad he looked with his head and ears drooping down like that. It is a very sad, somber location and I thought this place even makes the teddy bear sad.

Yes, the image conveys sad. I would have lightened the bottom of the teddy bear to see more detail. Could you have captured the head view vs. the rear view?   Posted: 10/05/2025 22:20:13

Jared, welcome to the group. You have certainly put up a shot that is very different and which challenges the viewer to identify the subject! Initially I thought this might be a wig as in the kind legal people wear and this was kind of the back view of it. In itself it's an intriguing shot, sharp and one which works well in mono.   Posted: 10/12/2025 08:42:14

Without the title I would not have known what this is, but that doesn't matter for it to be a good picture. I initially read this as an abstract , playing with tones, shapes and textures. For me, that what it is since I struggle to see the bear. A very interesting photograph.   Posted: 10/13/2025 08:59:06

Hi Jared,
The image has nice texture and tones. I know it's a teddy bear, but without your description I see it as an abstract. As an abstract it keeps my interest exploring the shapes and texture. I think I might crop the bottom of the frame below the teddy bear's head. It's a memorable photo of a very sad day.   Posted: 10/13/2025 15:14:32

Hi Jared--Welcome to the group! The ambiguity of the object contributes to the interest, in my opinion. It does indeed seem to be bowed in grief. This location must be a very moving place to visit and the image suggests the terrible events of that day while still leaving unanswered questions. I like mysterious images that do not reveal everything. Thanks for showing us this.
