I found several of these colorful spiders a couple of months ago on a trail on Kangaroo Island south of Adelaide.
Canon EOS R5, 1/125, f/10, ISO 400, 300mm. cropping and enhancing contrast about all I did.

Leslie, we have them here in South Florida but they are black and red. Have the same horns. I understand that in Australia are called jewel spider. Nice closeup. Posted: 07/02/2026 16:19:27

Leslie, Isaac beat me to it! We do indeed have something very close to this (color differences) here in South Florida. In fact at first I thought they were almost tiny crabs...but the web did not make sense! They like my patio !

This is an excellent image of the spider. The intricate patterns in the web, combined with the spider's striking colors, make for a very compelling photograph. Even though I'm not a fan of spiders, I have to admit I really like this image. Well done! Posted: 07/14/2026 20:18:35

Like the colorful spider, and the intricacies of the web.
Is it possible the colors would pop more on the spider if exposure was diminished sightly? I can't tell for sure, but the bright parts of the bug might be a tad overexposed. I could be wrong, it might just be my monitor.

Hard to say. On my monitor nothing is over-exposed. I like the subtle green behind the colorful spider...but every monitor is a little different, could be mine. Posted: 07/19/2026 23:04:15
