About the Image(s)
I had a lovely photoshoot with a nice sized population of Oystercatchers at Florida's Fort DeSoto Beach this past February. This is one of my favorite birds - I love the color contrasts, especially against a blue sky. The lighting was beautiful and I think the only editing I did was to crop for composition.
Settings: 1/1250 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 320, 600 mm using a Sony 300mm F2.8 + 2xTeleconverter

Gwen, awesome capture of very erratic birds. I've been experimenting with different f-stops to get all the birds sharp and still maintain a somewhat blurred background. This is my aim for sure!!! Love the action. symmetry of the Oystercatchers, and sand, sea, and sky! Nicely executed, bravo.   Posted: 07/07/2026 18:48:44

Hi Gwen,
Great capture. I like how the birds are diagonal across the frame rendering a beautiful composition. Your depth of field is spot on to have all the three Oystercatchers in focus. Well done.   Posted: 07/14/2026 20:13:26

I agree with the rest of the group. Your collection has a lot of interesting angles and triangles which add to the composition. A very clean shot in a lot of different ways.   Posted: 07/15/2026 20:50:34

Very nice, Gwen. You captured the moment quite well. Great focus, color and composition. Kudos for including the seashore to provide context. Looks like a lovely day. Well done!   Posted: 07/17/2026 22:03:39

Not much I can add to all the other compliments. I do love pied oystercatchers with their red eyes and black and white bodies. Getting all the flying birds in focus is tricky and you did it. Well done.   Posted: 07/18/2026 15:38:11

Really great shot...having shot at Fort DeSoto I know this is not an easy photograph!
Glad to see that f/8 got all the birds in focus.
My hat is off to you for this fantastic capture!
