This shot of a spoonbill searching for some food was taken in 2016 in the Wellington area west of West Palm Beach, Florida. Wellington is known primarily for its equestrian events but is also the home to a nature preserve called Peaceful Waters Sanctuary, where this pic was taken - captured with my Nikon D500 and 70-300 mm Nikor lens combo and crop factor. I started out in Camera Raw and played around with various sliders to improve mostly contrast and brightness. I then opened the image into Photoshop CS5 and cropped in and inverted the picture to a left to right orientation. Finally, I went into On1 Perfect Effects 8 to help with detail.

Hi Jerry,
What a beautiful colour this spoonbill has! I used to watch spoonbills in Sydney and loved observing their movements as they searched for food - they are incredible birds. I like how you enhanced the original photo in the edit; the inverted image and the crop really make a difference. I also love the golden tones in the water!   Posted: 10/21/2025 09:33:32

Looks like you have the photo enhancement tool kit. Nicely done. Did you just do all the adjustments or shortly after you made the photograph? I have also been going back to some of my photos made over the years to see if I overlooked or undervalued those previous captures. Especially since the editing software has changed drastically over the years.   Posted: 10/22/2025 11:17:19

Spoonbills are such great subjects with that bright pink color. Nice feeding pose captured. I might try another crop that includes all of the reflection. But then, leaving it partial makes it a bit more abstract.
Nice job with the processing and bringing out the color and detail.   Posted: 10/24/2025 00:04:47
