Captured on my iPhone 16 Pro when deciding to play around with the portrait settings for the first time. Quite impressive what we can do after the fact… shred the background further by choosing wide open aperture. Color adjustments, cropping, a little vignette all added right in the camera app. It’s also crazy how we can use the lighting feature to select lighting that makes it look like a fill flash was used.

Hi James and welcome to the group! Amazing what our phones are capable of - I often wonder where photography is heading in 10-20 years. I like the way you lit the boy's face (agree natural appearance - like you used a fill flash) and the background has a really nice out of focus appearance. Often the bokeh with iPhones (created with software) is not that appealing. My understanding is that iPhone 16 Pro lenses have fixed aperture; so any blurring or depth of field is created only with software. I like that the boy's face is not centered. My gaze goes straight to his face/eyes; really well done.   Posted: 11/01/2026 20:40:16
Welcome to the group James.
And what a cutie this little guy is. Excellent use of portrait mode and the subsequent edits. It's fun to play around with portrait mode while photographing inanimate objects, too. Allows for the possibility of so many different post-processing edits.   Posted: 11/01/2026 22:16:13
