I took this picture in Lisbon last March as a photo trip and met the photographer Rui Palha, of whom I'm inspired by his work. The kobalt paved streets of Lisbon and Alfama neighbourhood are a haven for street photography. I waited in the rain on a street corner, for a subject to show in the bright light reflecting off the stones. I was hoping they would walk towards me and become bigger in the frame, however the opposite happened, and they became smaller as they were walking away from me. I had to crop the picture (about 25% at the bottom and right). In addition I increased the contrast.
Camera Nikon z7ii with a 40mm lens at hyperfocal distance (f5.6); iso 400; S 1/1600

I really appreciate how you are so much lower than the individual walking away. It allows more of the cobble stone street to be a big part of the photo. I'm glad that the individual is walking away and not towards you. You aren't concentrating on him/her but the surroundings. Nice job! Posted: 07/15/2026 20:08:02
A lower angle allowed me to create a stronger leading line.

This is a very nice capture, Adi. My eyes are immediately attracted to and follow the individual in the highlights of the cobblestones.
It conveys a strong mood of weariness.
