About the Image(s)

Title - Gompa,Hemis Monastery
Place - Leh,Ladakh
Camera - Olympus OM1 Mark II
Lens - Olympus 12-40mm /f2.8
Exif - f7.1, 1/400s and ISO200,Flash Not Used

How I Did it : This is a Gompa near Hemis Monastery, located in Leh,Ladakh.
On the day I arrived,it was sunny and generally a flat blue sky. While moving around,I found this composition captures the complete architecture.I would prefer to go back a little bit more to capture this view point.Unfortunately, that was the end of the building.I also didn't have much wider lens as well.Somehow managed to get the architecture with a tilt.

You composed this shot perfectly, and the blue sky and clouds highlight it and give it even more visual impact. Thank you for sharing this incredibly interesting and beautiful building with us.   Posted: 10/12/2025 16:42:38

What a beautiful photo of this monastery! I would love to learn more about this, like what the elephants symbolize. Did you get really low to capture this interesting angle showing the whole building?   Posted: 10/17/2025 14:25:28

This is a most beautiful building. I'm not sure how well it would have worked if you had taken multiple images with your wide angle lens and stitched them in PS but it would give you more of the surrounding landscape to work with, so maybe something to consider for next time

I find wide angle lenses are difficult to work with and I have problems capturing the scene I see with them because of the distortion introduced. I tried removing the distortion in your image by increasing the canvas size and using Adobe Camera Raw to manually decrease the amount of distortion (straighten the sides of the building). This left a small portion of the edges open, but they could be filled in with generative fill.
Decreasing the lens distortion gives the building more of a 3D effect, but perhaps this isn't what it looked like at all.
In your opinion, does this improve the image?   Posted: 10/20/2025 03:14:13
