About the Image(s)

On a trip through Tanzania, we traveled just outside Zanzibar to hopefully find the Red Colobus monkeys that inhabit a portion of the rain forest near by. When we arrived at the rain forest, we were lucky enough to see a troop of monkeys next to the road’s edge. They were all foraging for vegetation pretty much ignoring the humans close by that were watching them. I caught this monkey with the sun poking through the vegetation with him (or her) looking up at other monkeys. In post processing I warmed the face of the monkey and added a slight vignetting to further call your attention to the monkey. The camera used was a Canon EOS 60D, 1/640 sec at f/6.3, ISO 2000, at 400mm.

A beautiful and well seen image. Warming up his face and adding a vignette has added to the image.
Might be tempted to try and blur background a bit more as quite busy but that is being a bit picky!
Well done.   Posted: 10/02/2025 11:15:11

The original shot was a great starting point. The subject is really sharp, and you have a good bokeh in the background. But I really like your edits, the color on the monkey really comes out in the edits, and the adding the vignette helps focus on the monkey. A nit-pick of my own, maybe a little more room at the top of the photo, with the understanding you probably did not have much time to capture the shot. Well Done.   Posted: 10/06/2025 01:04:20

A very sharp image of this monkey. The pose is good and having one eye visible allows the viewer to make a connection to the monkey.
The background could have been blurred a little more.
The hair on the top of its head almost touches the top of the image. When taking the photo, perhaps you could have tilted the camera a little upwards. In post processing, e.g. in Photoshop you could have added more canvas:
- image -> canvas size
-anchor -> add pixels, e.g. 50 to height
-magic wand on empty space
-edit -> fill -> content aware
