This was taken at the 2019 Spokane Conference with my Samsung phone. This is the way the dinner arrived - with the little orchid on top. I cropped it and then selected the flower and food. Then inversed the selection and painted it black. I removed the white spots by cloning and then added a very light stroke.

A creative crop, I must say, but honestly, I like the original better. Only because there's no context to the final. At first I thought the flower was resting on a decaying mushroom until I saw the asparagus. I do like the flower though! Posted: 07/08/2026 23:25:41

Marti, several times you created art from your meal. Nothing wrong with that and this orchid is interesting because it covers my favorite desert, chocolate ice cream so off with the flower and on to the chocolate. Which is photographically the boring part of the image. The asparagus also has negative vibes and that leads me to dislike some of the components of the image . The orchid is well done but the other components have flat light and take away from the flower. Posted: 07/12/2026 19:28:36

Hi Marti. This looks like a delicious meal, but I also like the original better because it is clearer that that's what it is. The steak was hard to recognize until I looked at the original, and the sauce loses it's transparency. It also might help to eliminate the imperfections on the upper right petal of the orchid. Unlike your many artistic flower compositions, this image seems more like successful documentation. Posted: 07/14/2026 19:38:10

Marti, I can understand that you made a creative decision to eliminate the plate and the cutlery so that there is more focus on the flower and I accept that. In my view there are three dominant elements in this image, the steak, the asparagus and the flower and all compete for attention. The steak looks delicious and so I focus on that. Personally, I would have left it on the white plate and removed the cutlery. Posted: 07/15/2026 10:20:08
