About the Image(s)
I’ve been trying to use a method of shooting where foregrounds and backgrounds are blurred and the subject tack sharp. This Filaree was a good subject. I used a 90 mm macro lens and shot through some underbrush to capture the image. ISO set low, f-stop at 2.8 and shutter speed at a rate that allowed for correct exposure. In post I simply increased white and black levels and removed the out of focus flower behind the subject.

This one is hard for me to comment on as I know you worked hard to achieve your objectives. When I look at it, my first thought is "record shot". I almost like the original better.   Posted: 10/05/2025 04:28:18
Rich, you've picked out a beautiful flower with fantastic green textures in the shooting thru/foreground and the background. I almost wonder if the flower should be larger in the image and lower. The sky does drag my eye out of the image as the flower isn't enough of a significant subject to cause me to stop. I took a class from Kathleen Clemmons on shoot thru and she mentioned that to emphasizing color in the out of focus foreground works best but she did acknowledge the textured greens approach also work.

Hi Rich. This lonely little flower lives in a wonderful sea of green. Although you have blurred the background enough to set off the flower, I like the fact that some of the shapes of the grasses are still visible. My only suggestion would be to crop in closer, darken some of the lightest areas and add a vignette. You have done a great job of capturing the personality of this little flower.   Posted: 10/19/2025 19:25:36
Hi Rich, I've not tried this technique and it looks like a very appealing approach to represent flowers, especially in their natural setting as this one is. I love the green grassy textures around it complementing the nice purple colour. It certainly stands out and eye catching. Perhaps a tighter crop but then it's all a personal taste. Like it a lot.   Posted: 10/23/2025 10:23:35
The shooting through is very effective. I never have had success with that. I agree that the right could be cropped. However, I don't think the flower is totally in focus. -   Posted: 10/24/2025 01:12:12
Hi Rich
Greetings my friend.
Apologies for delay feedback this edition.
I loved the Broadleaf Filaree that you captured and presented. The post processing version from the original is
Simply superb. Eventhough you had the 2nd flower remived but the frame is pretty big with lots of negetive space. I love the cropping that Ingrid suggested, a bit tight but briught the subject right on top.
Thank you for sharing.
Cheers.
