About the Image(s)

In the parking lot of a health care center is a row of high and long concrete barriers that direct cars where to and where not to park. The paint applied to these barriers long ago is speckled with mud and pealing. The result is, if one but looks closely, a series of panoramas painted by nature’s forces and human’s carelessness. Each visit presents new twists on the stories these barriers tell. On this particular day I saw a creature wearing sunglasses walking a log in mountainous terrain. I captured the scene with the camera I had - an iPhone 16 pro max. I imported the image into LightRoom Classic, and cropped. In Topaz AI I upsized. Back in LRC I make basic adjustments to emphasize the black lines that revealed the story.

This reminds me of Brooks Jensen's series from Fort Worden where the paint was peeling off on cement walls and grafitti seemed like heiroglyphs. He presented some of that at the PSA conference. You have a great imagination to see a creature with sunglasses! It would be fun to see this change over time, and you could create a whole series on it. See Jensen's work: https://www.brooksjensenarts.com/index2.html and scroll down to Wakasimarisen.   Posted: 10/06/2025 21:56:07

Thank you so very much for introducing me to Brooks Jensen's series. I love your idea of photographing it over time. I hope they will be in place long enough to do it. I have been compiling a series of decaying wall images for a portfolio. And all this time I knew not of Brooks Jensen.   Posted: 10/07/2025 02:12:58

Hi Judith, I liked the way each dark area seems to have lighter areas as eyes. I would delicately emphasize two eyes for each. Then it becomes a group of spooks flying in for All Hallows Eve. Found abstract art is fun to play with. Several people have done portfolios of rusting metal. The splatter gives an ethereal effect. Noticing scenes like this is a natural talent that is improved by practice and experience. Good observation. Karl   Posted: 10/21/2025 22:27:30
