About the Image(s)

Goldfield Mine, near Apache Junction AZ, is an interesting tourist spot in that it has a lot of old equipment (besides a gunfight or two). This scene caught my attention due to the rusty water tower highlighted against the Superstition Mountains. At first I liked the look of the path in the original but then there were too many "new" features that either needed to be cloned out or removed. I settled on a square crop of just the water tower and the mountains - with a bit of the tree still showing. There is just something about the rust and the rock face that intrigues me. I did add contrast, highlights, texture and dodged/burned the mountains. I dodged a bit on the tower and burned the clouds some. All work was done in Camera Raw or Photoshop.

I think you did a great job with an unusual foreground for the mountains. The square was a good choice. I studied the original, which I love, (the tree!), but I see your issues with clean up.

Very nice post-processing. The sky looks good, the texture is great on the tank, the tree tops look like tall grass, the mountains are smooth as they would be in the distance.

No suggestions, I think all your choices were fabulous.

Thank you Brenda. I worked on it over several months. I would process a bit then put it aside. Came back to it after a few days and just looked at it then did a bit more. I'm trying to learn to take my time and really examine my work rather than rushing through both taking photos and then processing.   Posted: 11/01/2026 15:49:37

The post-processing of the mountain narrowed the gap between tower and peak, which seems slightly surreal from my viewpoint. Overall, nice post-processing of your unique subject of interest.   Posted: 11/01/2026 17:21:50
