This is some street photography from a local downtown festival recently. I didn’t like the background of
the original subject so I popped him into a photo of the event’s ‘official’ photographer.

I darkened and slightly blurred the background without blurring the pavement at the subject’s feet. I added a slight
vignette to the image as well.

Wow, great job removing the official photographer and adding the unusual guy! I definitely wouldn't get it to be as believable as you.

I think we would all benefit if you could post the steps to remove, add and make them "fit", including shadows. Or a link to a video that you would use.   Posted: 10/04/2025 01:34:23

Technically this is a very well-done photo-the corrections are spot on and it looks great. Since the background has been changed, I'd consider it more of a creative composite than street photography. It really shows your strong editing skills.   Posted: 10/04/2025 03:06:40

Wow, you totally nailed the main characters' expressions and the dog's pose! Your composite is super cool, but it might not quite make the cut for photo journalism. You could still use your original to really make the guy and dog shine as the main stars by tweaking the light and colors in the background and foreground. That way, it could qualify for photo journalism!   Posted: 10/04/2025 20:50:32

No changes can be made in any Photojournalism entries, it is a reality-based category, along with PSA Nature and PSA Travel. The idea is that certain categories need to not be altered in any way.

There are numerous categories where this type of image can complete. Ed could enter this in PSA Color or a Creative category and do very well. Ed enters most of his images in photo clubs, and clubs set up their own rules.

It is an interesting image, but I'm more in the camp of take a good picture than make a good picture.   Posted: 10/06/2025 16:33:38

I like to create images that I like. Sometimes I like to not concern myself with PSA's rules and competitions and just make images that express my personal artistic aesthetic.   Posted: 10/12/2025 04:37:53

I totally agreed with you if competition is not on your agenda. The artistic aesthetic is subjective. If you always keep 'rules' in mind, that will diminish your creativity.   Posted: 10/12/2025 16:14:52

I also agree with Ed and Jean, as to me, the point of most photographs (at least used to be) to capture an instant of time (and to me to represent the scene as I saw it in my mind's eye). Now with purchasing images of sky and putting them in your own images, expanding borders, and making A.I. improvements, the whole point of photography seems to be disappearing. How long until we have "images" for competition that have been generated without even the use of a camera?   Posted: 10/21/2025 15:49:10

I believe we'll see some cool new "categories" of competition pop up down the road! I'm pretty sure traditional photography will still be a thing because it's the foundation. It's getting a bit tricky to tell whether an image is pure AI, just a little AI help, or totally AI-generated. To me, a great image is just a great image, and how we get there is totally up to us and what we like.   Posted: 10/21/2025 16:46:11

Ed, you can see that I was just answering Jean about entering in Photojournalism. I know entering PSA is not your goal. And you could enter this in PSA Color, for example, as all parts of it are yours.

I think it shows crazy skills! I would love for you to post your steps, that we can all try this. Thanks!   Posted: 10/23/2025 17:38:04

This is a warm and relaxing photo. If the background could be changed to something that better echoes the subject and the story of the relaxing dog - for example, a beach, a scenic landscape with depth of field, or by adding sunset tones - it might enhance the overall atmosphere. I'd love to hear your thoughts. These are just my personal suggestions.   Posted: 10/16/2025 01:36:03

Interesting. Good job of combining images to get a scene that you want. The orange behind the person's shoulder distracts my eye a bit.   Posted: 10/23/2025 21:13:24
