October 2025 - Roses

About the Image(s)

Nikon D850 - Nikon 200mm macro lens - tripod mounted ??“ ISO 1250 ??“ 1/50 @ f/13 - cloudy - post processed in Elements - one image. Photoflex soft gold reflector to add light to the Roses.

At a local plant nursery we happened to see this rose flower with a pink outer edge and a yellow center. It now lives in a large ceramic container on our deck. During the spring I watched the flowers develop, On this day everything looked just right, a nice flower arrangement and soft cloudy lighting and also no wind.

Great job, Murphy. You made this one tough other than to pick a nit. a third of a stop maybe to make the roses pop? Just the back of that top rose some lens blur but it does not bother me too much. Nice -Ali   Posted: 10/09/2025 23:19:14

The top rose has some blur. What about darkening a bit the background to conceal the blurry magenta 'spots'?. The roses are sharpand the colours beautiful.   Posted: 10/15/2025 16:04:59

Hi Gaetan: Yes, the back of the top rose is slightly soft, missed seeing that one or I would have fixed it.

Regarding the blurry magenta spots in the background; Those are out of focus flowers in the distance, they were left on purpose to add another color compliment to the picture and to avoid just a very dark plain background.   Posted: 10/21/2025 19:36:07

Another presentations of roses, almost a bouquet....
At first sight, I saw four roses, but there are 5. I like the big 3 yellow, but the 2 tother bring something less classic at the picture.
Nice composition (background and format).   Posted: 10/23/2025 11:02:06

Hi Vincent: Think you are correct, just the 3 larger yellow roses would have made a "classic composition." Sometimes "less is more" and I think that phrase fits here.   Posted: 10/23/2025 23:08:08
