About the Image(s)
This was taken in Captiva, FL earlier this summer when we spent a day on the west coast. We got lucky enough to be graced by a beautiful rainbow and calm ocean waters. I have a real fascination with rainbows and being able to capture them on my camera. Th
Taken with Nikon D850 and a 24-120 Nikkor lens at 24 mm.

Sherry, first and foremost, you image captures a mood of peace and serenity. Judging from your description, it appears your focus was on the rainbow, but to me what makes this scene is the hammock - I do not want to offend because it's your shot, but in my VF I wanted to shift the viewer's attention to the hammock, so I eliminatied the Australian Pines that fill the upper left of the frame then did everything I could - dodging, burning, vignette, exposure, adding vibrance, etc., to focus the eye on the hammock, and allow the rainbow, clouds, and coconut palms to be the supporting cast. But the important thing in my opinion is the mood you created regardless of focal point.   Posted: 10/07/2025 13:22:50
Thanks, Butch….i do think the hammock is an essential part of the image because this image is about the peace and hope. environmental , and I very much like the removal of the Pine tree…..I think that does indeed put more focus on hammock (and I had already removed one on the right hand side and should have considered doing the other side) . The one thing I don't think I would want is to crop out any of the rainbow, since I think the rainbow and hammock are both part of the "mood" I love about the image. I do appreciate your suggestions!   Posted: 10/07/2025 14:25:10
Congratulations on a great rainbow Sherry. I don't know how your rainbows behave, but down here they disappear while you're looking at them, they're very camera shy!!! The whole scene says peace, calm and tranquility to me and you have presented it very well indeed.   Posted: 10/13/2025 05:42:29
Sherry, yes a great image that expresses a wonderful mood. The hammock certainly adds to that mood and I can see this as a print on the wall of the house where that was taken. I agree with the butch that the pines should go if possible as they take away from the simplicity of the image. I am not sure I agree with the right edge crop that Butch did as I find the 2 chairs on that side to add interest. But if you did a crop on hat side I wouold bring the right edge into where the rainbow intersects with the upper right corner - just a thought. Ray   Posted: 10/18/2025 00:58:27
It's a beautiful capture and as a viewer, makes me feel I'm at the beach somewhere. I had to look closely to see the chairs on the lower right side, so my thoughts are removing the pine tree from the upper left to keep the palms clean and highlighted as a border. I would also crop the right to eliminate the chairs if possible. I like the rainbow and clouds and agree that the hammock could be brightened so it shows more distinctly. The image does reflect a sense of calm, quietness, and some solitude.   Posted: 10/22/2025 18:36:53
