About the Image(s)
This is a pano of the south rim of the grand canyon. My focus was a high horizon and focusing on the canyon
Nikon D850, using a 24-7-mm lens and at F6.3, Iso 160 at 1/80 second. Using a tripod with a pano bracket.
Post - stitched images together and then adjusted shadows, highlights and cropped. You can see the Bright Angel Trail at the bottom of the image - an easy 7.8 miles DOWN and no surprise, a gruling 7.8 miles back up to your hotel. All in one day!

The Grand Canyon is one of the most photographed landscapes in the world where the subject itself delivers great impact. And here you captured scale, depth, and texture. - but it's also a difficult place to get strong compositions, because the interest is down and the sky is up - and getting both in a frame with strong visual interest isn't easy. Having said that, you've done a great job of stitching and captured nice sidelight adding depth and dimensionality, highlighting ridges and valleys and the golden light on canyon walls is a strong visual asset. While snow always adds to landscape images here, I think the area in the lower right of the image detracts from the rest of the image. BTW- I did Bright Angel Trail once. Never again! :-)   Posted: 10/07/2025 13:34:10
Congratulations on a great pano Dave. It shows the vastness of the Grand Canyon, along with its depth and colours in the rock layers. You've included the right amount of sky, in my mind, to show us the horizon.   Posted: 10/13/2025 05:12:34
Beautiful Pano of the Grand Canyon....so difficult to shoot and incorporate the magnificence and vast expanse of the Canyon. It is an excellent pano of an American icon. I've been there a few times and every time it makes me feel how insignificant man is to nature. This image defines my feelings when standing there looking at the canyon. Congrats on a job well done.   Posted: 10/16/2025 15:23:48
Dave, you did great with this pano - been there and you definitely need a pano to do the canyon justice and you took it at just the right time of day. I like the lower right with the snow and the outcrop as it helps place me on the rim. And like others, once was enough - in my mid 30s hiked with friends to Phantom Ranch, then to the north rim (bottom only) and then back through the ranch and out - fond memories but I plan to keep it that way. I think minimizing the sky helps give the canyon a sense of massiveness and the light and shadows throughout the canyon scene keep my eye moving. I think that's the story, in the size of the canyon. I personally struggle with these type of shots and generally zoom in on a single element to create a story, so I appreciate what you've captured here.   Posted: 10/22/2025 18:44:55
