About the Image(s)
This month, I decided to shoot a cattleya orchid my wife brought home. I didn't want to make just a plain record shot of the orchid. So, I experimented with selective focus using a fast lens wide open to get an extremely shallow depth of field (DoF). I was hoping the shallow DoF would give the image a more abstract look. I focused on the throat of the orchid because it was a different color from the surrounding pink petals and had some interesting small, black dots. Because of the narrow DoF, I had to focus-stack five images. I used a Nikon full-frame camera with a Voigtlander 50mm f/1.0 lens with a Raynox M-250 close-up lens on a tripod. Exposre was 1/160 second @ f/1.0 and ISO 400.
