October 2025 - Patterns

About the Image(s)

For this month’s image, I chose one that I took recently, taking advantage of the morning dew. The patterns in the grasses and the sparkling dew caught my attention, and I wanted to capture them in an image. I knew I would need a lot of depth of field to get all the leaves in focus, so I did an in-camera focus stack of ten images, which produced this result.

Exif data:
Shutter speed: 1/2000 sec
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 2000
Shot with Canon R6 II and a 100mm macro lens

This is such a unique looking plant that I had to look it up. My search shows it's a Drummond woodsorrel - a plant native to the U.S. I've never seen one before. I like the way you captured it with dew drops. So many interesting patterns. Good eye and excellent composition.   Posted: 10/05/2025 20:29:40

Hi David,
Thank you for your nice comment. I was walking in the field early in the morning, hoping to capture some insects with dew still on their bodies, when these plants caught my attention because of their patterns and the water drops.   Posted: 10/21/2025 12:38:00

Thanks, Dick,
for letting me know the name of this weed. It's very common here at certain times of the year, and about a month ago it was their peak season. I'm glad that you like it.

Hi Barbara,
Thank you for your comment. This image is the result of ten in-camera focus-stacked images, which made it possible to capture all the details from the tallest leaves to the shortest ones.   Posted: 10/21/2025 12:45:59
