It's an imposing arch, which I think has been well framed. You caught the flag in a good position, too.

Stuart said it very well and documented it with the histogram. It sounds like you used a very simple monochrome conversion or shot it in monochrome with little or no addiional adjustment. I like to use monochrome conversion software that allows me to adjust the tones of all the colors individually to end up with a "true black", good contrast of all picture elements, and just a touch of white. Then it might take further brightness and contrast adjustment. Nik silver Efex was my favorite, but the improved selection process in Lightroom have convinced me to use it.   Posted: 07/17/2026 01:35:32

I appreciate the comments regarding the contrast of the image. While I agree that I could have dialed up the exposure and contrast, I chose to keep the subdued feeling that I saw and felt. The damp heavily overcast conditions were what were there at the time. I was trying to keep the subdued uncomfortable mood without resorting to dark angry clouds. The Continental Army soldiers emcamped here in 1777 and 1778 would have felt the same discomfort at times.   Posted: 07/17/2026 15:23:29
