About the Image(s)
I’m usually not a flower photographer but the contrast between this flower and its surroundings brought me closer. In addition the stamen were bright orange and the most noticeable part of the flower. I felt that the stems were a necessary part of the photograph also. In Lightroom I cropped the photo to emphasize the flower and stems. Then lowered exposure and masked to hot spots on the petals to remove the hottest areas. Some minor cloning of distractions then resizing. This image was taken hand-held with a Canon 6D and 24-105 lens. The exposure settings were T=1/500 s, f/8, and ISO 3200.

I like the way the light flower stands out from the dark background, and yes, the stems add to the picture for me. But I wonder if your comment "....bright orange and the most noticeable part of the flower" suggests that it would have been better in colour?   Posted: 10/08/2025 10:06:15
I like the color version better, as it seems sharper.   Posted: 10/13/2025 13:59:23
The mono is simple where the flower dominates and the background becomes very passive. The colour version has great impact of colour and the texture comes through stronger but I find the background more chaotic. There are very noticeable distractions in the colour version bottom right and on the leaf just right of the flower but are eliminated by the mono conversion. I find the stems make a stronger leading line in the mono, so for me.....the mono.   Posted: 10/18/2025 11:19:10
