About the Image(s)
This bloom was captured as a single image at the Berkley Botanical Gardens in April 2025. Here I used my Canon R5 MII camera with a 100 mm f/2.8 macro lens (1/2,000 sec, f/11, ISO 3,200). There was a lot of wind so I had to select settings that would allow a fast shutter speed (thus the capture at 1/ 2,000 sec with ISO 3,200). As you would expect there was a fair amount of noise to deal with, but Topaz Photo AI did a great job here. In this case I was looking for as clean as a presentation as I could get. I have included a copy of the image right out of the camera so you can see what I had as a starting place.

Hi Charles,
Nice work. I am amazed by the power of the new de-noise programs.
You also succeeded in altering the background to a much pleasing one.

HI Charlie: A very interesting bloom with a high degree of texture and just super sharpness on the bloom.
In the original the busy background is what I would expect from a 100mm macro lens using f/11 aperture. You have diffused the background to be a very pleasant out of focus green with soft violet highlights.
At ISO 3200 many camera bodies would show some noise, however your de-noise program removed any trace of digital noise, and you have a very clean presentation.
I enjoy visiting botanical gardens as a person will see unusual plant life as you have captured here.

Hi Charles! This is a lovely picture and depth of field transformation. The colors are very subdued with the touch of lavender. Very nicely done!   Posted: 10/20/2025 01:27:22
