About the Image(s)

First image was taken with OMD-EM-1 markii, 4-150 mm lens
1/320, f5.6, ISO 200
It was taken in a river in NH while on a club fall field trip.
I was taken with the cairn sitting so perfectly blanched with the colorful background.

I worked on it in LRC using masks to separate the subject from the background and cropping to make the subject stand out more. I thought the rock base was too light so I used a brush to darken it as well as darkening the lighter background tree .

I am now at the point where I wonder if I've overworked it. As always, thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

I do not think you have overworked it at all. You have made it pop much more with your editing. The darkened rock in the foreground sends the eye to the stacked rocks, the main focal point, which are better brightened, as you have done. They are in the right third power point. The colors in the background foliage have been boosted slightly, adding drama. I respond more positively to the edited version than the original. Nice image.   Posted: 10/10/2025 02:33:23

Erin, I thought your edits helped it. It is stack of rocks we would all want to see on a canoe trip. Nice photo!   Posted: 10/20/2025 02:09:57

Erin,
I think the separation between the foreground and background works and doesn't appear artificial. The texture and shapes and dynamic balance add interest and a bit of tension.   Posted: 10/26/2025 20:23:47
