About the Image(s)

Title - Diving In

Background - Image from a kids’ swim meet a few weeks ago and captured a dive just as the young girl was hitting the water. You can see the reflection in the water, which I thought was pretty cool. The only thing I did was crop the photo a bit. There are some people in the background unfortunately, but otherwise I thought a pretty nice image.

Camera and Lens: Nikon Z9 with 70-200mm lens.

Settings: ISO 1250, f/2.8, 1/1600, 200mm

Don, before I comment on the image I would like to mention that Tattoo culture among young girls has surged in recent years, with data indicating that up to 56% of women ages 18 to 29 now have at least one tattoo. What was once considered an act of rebellion has shifted into mainstream aesthetic self-expression, driven by personal empowerment, social media influence, and the declining stigma around body art.
Indeed, this is a young girl. I like the peak of action with her fingers just touching the water. I agree with the reflection. Good DOF and it is sharp. Interesting as how she is framed by the legs of the bystanders.   Posted: 07/10/2026 13:48:59

Interesting facts, Isaac. I was not aware of that, but makes sense. Thank you for the feedback on the picture. I tried multiple angles and was pleased with this one.   Posted: 07/15/2026 00:04:59

Hi Don. This is a fine photo captured at the split moment of entry into the water. Tack sharp and with her reflection in the pool, must be the first person to enter the pool that day. This photo could have been made better by including the girls swimming cap in the reflection, a complete photo so to speak. If you have cropped the lower part of the photo, don't. I won an award with a complete shadow of a tennis player performing an overhead smash. Pointed out to me by my son before I submitted photo, judge made same comment. Perhaps the legs of the others maybe a distraction but taking them out takes away from the atmosphere of the event.   Posted: 07/17/2026 00:43:43
