About the Image(s)

I love the textures and colours in rusted old things. This is some rusty old metal that has been set aside to be used on a piece of metal art. I've photographed it before, but this time got in a lot closer.
Camera settings: 1/320sec, f/13, ISO320, 187.00mm.
It was a very bright, sunny day, so I kept the shutter speed fast and ISO low. I like that the shadows behind reveal just a little of the grass behind the metal.
For processing, I used Nik HDR Efex to bring out detail, then lowered the opacity to 70%. I then used a masked curves layer to darken a couple of areas, such as the darker piece at the top.

I love this! The rust has such wonderful texture and the color is rich. A very simple and effective composition. I have two minor suggestions (although it is already wonderful the way it is). I wonder if it is stronger when flipped since we read from left to right and the plain area can lead my eye through the while frame. I also added a vignette.   Posted: 11/01/2026 18:48:57

It is amazing that so many patterns and variations in color can be seen in rust. This reminds me of one of my favorite photographer's works. Sara Marino: https://www.smallscenes.com/. She often takes photos of patterns in nature…nice shot   Posted: 11/01/2026 21:09:30
