Hawaiian Green Turtle by Keith Underwood

November 2026 - Hawaiian Green Turtle

About the Image(s)

Camera: Underwater Compact Panasonic DMC-T54

Shutter Speed 1/400, F 3.3, ISO 100

This photo was taken at a snorkel location called Two Step on the Big Island of Hawaii. I've learned over the years how to find Turtles feeding on the bottom. I float motionlessly over them and wait for them to surface. They frequently become curious and swim up to me. The bright intense sun created a golden reflection which warms the photo for me. Swimming with sea creatures brings me relaxation and joy.

No changes were made to the color or saturation of this photo. This is representative of the true experience. There were many small particles in the water that detracted from the subject, so I removed, healed and cloned them out. I also increased the exposure and white balance on the face, which was a bit darker.

I attempted to find a pose that implies activity, emotion or intent. Also, the beauty of the critter.

What a wonderful photo! Love the complimentary colors and especially the curve of the water surface and reflection of the turtle on the surface. I like that you left room for the turtle to descend into. Excellent timing on your capture. I wouldn't change a thing.   Posted: 11/01/2026 18:52:43
