Table lamps in a bar by Tom Lee

October 2025 - Table lamps in a bar

About the Image(s)

This image was captured during a night photo walk in downtown Houston, Texas. As I passed by this bar, I was drawn to the dark mood, as well as the color of the table lamps and their reflections. The photo was taken with a Lumix G9ii and a Leica 12??“60 mm lens, then further processed in Lightroom and Photo AI.

Tom, I can understand why you were attracted by the moodiness of this scene. You have captured it well with the eye being drawn into the image by the foreground row of lights towards the bar in the background. At first I didn't notice the silhouette of the person/s at the bar. Maybe lighten the background a little to bring out some detail in this area.
You have certainly shown us the "dark mood" in this image.

Moody night lights is what I read from this image. I think it is a nice moody image but cant decide what more I can offer towards any more constructive comments regarding it. My experience in street photography is too limited and will look forward seeing what other comments are on offer so that I can learn from it. I have an image of moody lights in a bar and comments from more experienced authors will assist me in future placements.   Posted: 10/14/2025 13:40:00

Tom, if you give some more light to be able to see clearly the people and crop it to the chair, it will be perfect and with perspective. But I'm not sure if it's for the street...   Posted: 10/16/2025 15:11:44

Great mood. Good use of existing light and textures present in the bar. I think it is a perfect image of a bar, a place of loneliness but also of companionship. I would prefer that the bar itself be brought up, revealing bottles, glasses, etc, but no bartender. Real interesting image.   Posted: 10/18/2025 05:33:55

Tom, your image captures the essence of street photography for this group, especially with its intriguing atmosphere from the "Dark Side" this month. In our context, photographing scenes from the street-such as this one-qualifies as street photography. I often find myself drawn to shooting through windows to capture reflections and the people inside, which adds another layer to the narrative.
If you were to present this image alongside other shots from the same town or city, it would naturally become part of a larger story. Including additional images, as Gerhard did this month, can help provide greater context and enrich the main photo's narrative.
There are several elements in your photo that stand out. The row of lights creates a strong leading line, guiding the viewer's eye deeper into the frame. The pair of glasses in the lower left corner raises questions and invites curiosity. Additionally, the heart above the last light on the wall adds a unique tone and character to the bar setting.
To further enhance the image, I recommend applying a radial filter to the bar area. This technique can help bring out the people and make them more prominent within the scene, adding to the overall impact.

Thank you for your input regarding the background lighting-I've made some adjustments. I dimmed the three table lamps and brightened the background. Now, the lamps form a leading line that draws the viewer's eyes toward the bar in the back. I'd appreciate your critique, and thank you again!   Posted: 10/21/2025 13:53:26
