July 2026 - Moth on a Flower

I was walking around Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland, an award-winning 50-acre public display garden within Wheaton Regional Park with my camera when I spotted this moth on a flower.
I took the image with my Nikon 6Zii, and 24-70 lens
ISO 100, f 5.6, shutter 1/500 sec.
Please provide any feedback and critiques that would be helpful.

I know this photo has a lot of negative space but for me it really works. The simplicity of the photo is ideal. Yes you could've cropped it in more but I don't think it would've changed the photo. I really like how the background is blurred but the flower and the moth are very sharp. Great job. Posted: 07/03/2026 20:04:13
I like the image with its sharp focus and blurred background. Very nice colors, too. Here's an example of a closer crop placing more emphasis on the subject, but losing some negative space. Posted: 07/16/2026 14:19:02

Pauline, Super catch of a moth so you can see all the detail from eyes and legs to the wing. Nice use of rule of thirds. The sharp purple flower on the green background bokeh is perfect. I like it as is, but might play with crops, both portrait and landscape to see if one works better - not sure. Posted: 07/19/2026 13:53:45
