About the Image(s)
This image was captured a few days ago on the shouthern coast of Oregon. Canon R5 with Canon 24-105 lens. Tripod mounted. I added a 10 stop ND filter and a polarizing filter. ISO 100; f/16; 90 second exposure.
The image is slightly cropped to an 8X10 aspect ratio.
I set white and black points and reduced the highlights the bumped up clarity and vibrance for the entire image; the next step was to select the subject and and open oup the shadows and dehaze to bringout more detail on the main rock. I used a linear gradient to darken the foreground slightly.
I would like ot print this - perhaps on glossy acrylic. Let me know what you thinl.

Powerful image. I love the composition, fog/mist, and detail on those rock. I would try darkening the sky and water a bit. I think this would look excellent on glossy acrylic.   Posted: 10/05/2025 19:24:40

Thanks, Judith. I think you may be suggesting that I have lightened the sky and the water too much from the original underexposed image. I will try it and see what I think.   Posted: 10/11/2025 17:32:34

A much photographed rock formation near Bandon. I think your post processing works well. Not a great sunset but you did get some color in the sky. I like the fog on the water. I'm a little confused why the water in the foreground is not milky with a 90 sec exposure. I'm wondering if cropping out the lower water, just leaving the fog and adding more sky might work better. Just a thought.   Posted: 10/18/2025 22:07:29

You know...that is a really good question. I will have to do some research on long exposure to see what caused that effect.   Posted: 10/19/2025 12:43:30

I enjoy the balance of this image, I wouldn't change anything. The large rock has that tan area on the right side you could consider bringing out the detail. Maybe a bit of additional contrast. Pamela's comment on cropping the lower, smooth water is an interesting idea.   Posted: 10/20/2025 17:16:01

Thanks, Polly, I eventually cropped this to a square and added a red-orange layer to th esky then blended it in so ther appars to be a better sunset. After going through my images from the trip, I found some I liked better. I don't think this one is oging on the wall.   Posted: 10/24/2025 17:45:46

Nice image and editing. I have some of the same concerns as the others have mentioned. My first thought was with a 90 second exposure how did you get wave action in the foreground especially with the ND10 filter. Cropping up to the milky or fog area and making this a horizontal rather than a vertical might help even though it eliminates the rock reflection. The water color is good and the sky could be darkened just a bit on the upper portions. I think you did a masterful job of handling that heavy dark line that is the horizon in the original.   Posted: 10/23/2025 16:29:14

Thanks, Tom. The more I study this image the less I like it (as often happens). I too am curious about why I have the wave action in the foreground. I will have to do some research. I eventually cropped to a square and worked on the sky, which helped, but I don't think it is going on my wall.   Posted: 10/24/2025 17:48:34

Strong image. I'm guessing the wave was breaking behind the clear water. If permitted, I would add a Gaussian blur and darken the foreground. ALS, the light is coming from the right and behind the rocks. Instead of lightening the entire rocks, I would just dodge the areas the light might have hit. Also, you may be able to pull more color from the sky. I wouldn't enhance the yellow area on the right, but in the other areas possibly selectively pushing vibrancy and saturation might work.   Posted: 10/23/2025 21:34:10

Thanks, Mike, Those are some interesting ideas which might save the image. Looking at it closer I found a lot of broken pixels. Maybe if I go back to the original and dont bring up the shadows on the rocks so much I can avoid those.
As I recall you are ight about the wave action breaking behind very still water. That makes sense otherwise me.
Hope you had a good and productive trip.   Posted: 10/24/2025 17:51:32
