About the Image(s)
This was a hard insect to photograph because it was in a busy background area of my garden. It sensed my presence so went into its praying pose. After trying several approaches the "original" photo was my best catch. Cropped and turned the photo in Snapseed and did minor editing. The feathery white seedpods are from my milkweed. Which think is the best: Original photo or repositioned one

Lynne, I never have had a chance to shoot a Praying Mantis. The Milkweed part of the image is great. I have friends who plant Milkweed seeds to attract Butterflies. Wonderful image.   Posted: 10/06/2025 21:38:13
Wow what a great shot and the reposition is what makes it really work! Great choice.   Posted: 10/07/2025 21:45:51
Great capture. I think the repositioned version is more effective. The light/shadow on the critter looks correct, so that works well. Good use of depth of field, too. I like that it seems to be looking at the camera. I found one of them on a wall last year, but my photos didn't look anywhere near as good as yours.

Flipping the image was a fine decision and makes the images. Toning down the very bright flowers could help. A vignette?   Posted: 10/11/2025 11:17:37
Wonderful capture of the praying mantis. Lucky you to have one in your garden. Rotating the image so the insect is vertical and looking at the camera really works well.   Posted: 10/18/2025 01:04:17
