About the Image(s)

For me, the corner of this old structure with the electric wire against the layered mountains made for a story-telling landscape image.
Processing was in Lightroom and Photoshop. The shot was taken on a Fuji X-T3 with a 75mm lens (F11.0, ISO 500, 1/550).

Good afternoon Jeff. I love images of mist and mountains. I really like the layered contours of the mountains in this image. This image brings that out nicely.

Having said that I struggle with the wire in the image. To my eye it gives a feel of having the lower right corner being cut off even though I can still the corner in the image, a sense of discontinuity.

It does tell me a story of bringing power (and light) to an area that might not have it otherwise. It is just that, at least to my it is such a stark contrast going as it does from the bottom center to up on the right side.

In spite of that I like the image and am glad you shared it with us.   Posted: 10/13/2025 19:46:37

I think it needs the wire -- looks a little unexciting without it!   Posted: 10/13/2025 21:03:57

Hi Douglas - Thanks for the comment. I agree that the image isn't as impactful without the wire. I think it tells a story.   Posted: 10/17/2025 15:52:06

I find the wire is distracting. I agree with Jeff's trial edit. I think that if ypu malightedned the light areas it would gvie little excitement to the photo. This is a very interesting and eye satisfying photograph   Posted: 10/14/2025 16:28:51

Hi Albert - I'll try lightening the light areas and see how that looks. Thanks for the comments.   Posted: 10/17/2025 15:52:53

Hi Jeff, the monochrome version definitely made the photo "pop"; it brings out the misty and dreamy feel of the mountain layers. The sharp power line and the corner of the house (sharp and clear) give great contrast to the misty/dreamy mountain. Thank you for sharing the photo with us!   Posted: 10/15/2025 06:08:59

Hi Jeff! What a fine minimalistic image, with a huge depth conveyed by the tones of the misty mountains disappearing into the horizon. I think that the power line and the light in the house are the elements that make it special and interesting, both for story-telling and compositionwise. The sharp contrast of the foreground elements add another layer to the image, and I love the way the angle of the power line compliments the slope of the hills, and how the mass of the house in the corner balances the image.   Posted: 10/15/2025 17:43:44

Hi Kirsti - It looks like our group is split about the power line but to me, it really made the image. Thanks!   Posted: 10/17/2025 15:54:09

Hi Jeff. For me, the wire is what completes the image. I appreciate how the mountains fade at different levels, creating a natural layering effect. Without the wire, the building corner on the right would feel unbalanced to me. Nice job!
