About the Image(s)

A camellia from my backyard, with the sunlight filtered through the trees in the late afternoon. Shot in aperture priority, f/5.0, 150 mm, 1/250 sec, autofocus with manual adjustment, auto white balance. ISO 1250 (on auto ISO).

Adjustments were minimal, with some background bright spots darkened near the bottom, and the center of the flower (where the ant is) brightened a bit. Also, sharpened the flower a bit.

I considered darkening the very bright bud, just to the right of the flower, and the leaves leading toward the right edge. But, I decided not to do so. Thoughts on that are especially appreciated.

I love this shot! Your brightening the petal around the ant really brings one attention to the little critter. Even without the ant, the composition with the complementary colors of the magenta flower and green leaves is beautiful. But, that ant...It just takes the image to a whole new level! The bright spot doesn't bother me at all. In some ways, I like it as is because it has an interesting array of colors (red, orange, yellow and green). Darkening it wouldn't improve the image much in my opinion.   Posted: 11/02/2026 00:28:39
