About the Image(s)

I was taking photos in the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh with a 60mm macro lens on my Olympus camera and sat on a bench to take a look at what I had taken. The 60mm macro lens for an Olympus is an unusual lens so I was playing with the settings and learning how to use it. This robin appeared in the Rhododendron bush next to me and stayed for a while so I took some pictures. I like this one because the bird appears to be looking at the flower. I thought I could make a better picture from it so I cropped it, reduced the highlights on the branches and removed some distracting branches. Taken at 1/40 sec, f10, ISO 400 ( probably because I hadn’t mastered the lens at that time!!)

When I saw this image, I was thinking, "It doesn't look like a robin." Then, I realized after googling "robin," that there are American robins and UK (or European) robins...entirely different species. I must say UK robins are a whole lot cuter and more photographically appealing than the American robins. You captured this one perfectly as it was looking off to the side showing off its profile. I can't make any suggestions to improve this image.   Posted: 11/02/2026 00:45:29
