About the Image(s)

Took a tour at Old Friends thoroughbred retirement farm in Kentucky. Lava Man is one of the many horses living there now. There have been 5 Kentucky Derby winners housed there too. Lava man is in the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. He won $5, 268,706 during his racing career. It was a bleak, rainy day and the sky was bland so I replaced it with a sky I had taken at another time. I used Camera Raw to adjust the exposure and clarity. I used Topaz AI DeNoise and sharpening tools. I also use the healing brush to remove many of the white spots on the fence. Settings: f/5.6, ISO 100, 1/100 and 43 mm.

I can't say I really appreciate who this horse was in its heyday as I am not a race fan, but the photo is wonderful. I like how you brought out the detail in the horse's dark coat without making it look overly HDR-garish. The same with the sky. The clouds complements the image both in color and in mood. If I were to make any suggestions, and it's a very minor one, it would be to darken or remove that small, bright spot at the left edge under the tree and between the fence posts.   Posted: 11/02/2026 00:58:04
