About the Image(s)
Description: I enjoy shooting flat lay compositions. This flat lay was taken with an iPhone 17, Focal Length, 6.76 mm, exp 1/270. f 1.8, ISO 64. The image was edited in Photoshop using DXO PLab 8 extension for light, color, and denoise. It was also edited for minor perspective alterations.
I had considered using this shot as an optional entry for a Flower Show, Photography Division, but didn't use it because it didn't fit the class description. The bowls were collected during my travels abroad while doing volunteer work. They contain grains, herbs, etc.

Your still life is simple yet elegant Jill. I like your use of color and texture to tell us a story. The more I look at this the more I like it. Everything seems to work in harmony including your choice of background. I do believe that your interesting bowls help tell the story and also add interst.

A compelling still life. Composition is perfect for this kind of image. It has never occured to me to do a flat lay composition. Works great for this image. I really like the back story on the bowls. The bowl and potatoes breaks up the otherwise uniform arrangement.   Posted: 07/15/2026 18:04:28
Very nice earthy still life. The format and composition are well balanced. The center oval dish acts to set center with symetrical bowls around it. Even the green herb is set in a nice symetricle pattern. The bowls are filled with different plants, and grains which are very sharp. The various shapes colors and textures of the vegetables, grains and bowls make it most interesting. The colors seem to be just right, ie the red green complimentary make the objects stand out. The even shade of brown making up the background, also makes the Items in the foreground stand out. Very good, well organized still life. I cannot think of any changes to be made.   Posted: 07/17/2026 20:30:13
