October 2025 - Dropping In

About the Image(s)

We just wrapped up our local fair. The photo exhibit went well. After working monitor duty, I love to walk around the fair and get human interest images. One of my favorite things to do is to stand on the midway and watch the people on the various rides. This year did not disappoint.
This shot is titled "Dropping In" and was taken with a Nikon Z9 with an F-Mount Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 FL ED with the FTZ2 converter. Exposure was 1/2000 sec @ f/8, ISO 7200. I've been working a lot with auto ISO, and it's my go-to setup for most situations anymore. Between the capabilities of the new cameras and the denoise technology in the editing software, I find I can get away with some pretty high ISO settings before the quality suffers. We had some thunderstorms in the area which gave us wonderful skies. I didn't to very much to this image, other than opening up the shadows and bumping the vibrance and denoise a skosh.
I hope everyone has a great October!

This is such a fun shot. It brings a smile to my face. The look on the kid's face in the center tells the whole store of this ride. Your composition is very good and the colors are great Andrew. And, as you stated, clouds provide a perfect background for the image. Besides looking at the faces of the riders I like that the ride is a bit askew from your shooting perspective. I am not certain you did this on purpose, but I feel it adds a bit of additional tension to the shot and keeps the viewer engaged. Well done and I don't think I want to go on that ride after seeing those faces!   Posted: 10/24/2025 21:54:23

That kid in the middle with the frightened face would be me! It's a great image. I love the colors and the perspective. The Super Shot happy bear gives the scene a bit of humor the way it is positioned under the frightened boy. Great job!   Posted: 10/26/2025 02:03:50
