About the Image(s)

The Ring of Brodgar is a Neolithic stone circle in Orkney, Scotland, its 27 standing stones tracing a near-perfect ring over 100 meters wide. Raised around 2500??“2000 BCE, it speaks in silence of ritual and sky, aligned with the stars and seasons. Like Stonehenge and Avebury far to the south, it forms part of an ancient chorus of sacred places??”echoes of a time when stone, earth, and cosmos were bound by human hands and imagination.

I aimed to capture the broader environment of the Ring of Brodgar: the distant loch, the ever-changing sky, and the varied textures of the surrounding grasses. By choosing a wide shot, I wanted to convey the scale of the site while keeping the composition timeless and undisturbed. I waited until all visitors were hidden behind a rock, allowing only the standing stones to remain in view.

Taken with my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I performed a BW conversion in Nik Silver Efex Pro with other adjustments in Lightroom.

Well Bunny you have a very nice story to go with your nice photo. I agree that mono is the way to go for this image. I really like the textures in the sky and the grasses below. We are seeing a vast expanse and the way you have shot this makes the area seem huge. While I like the shot as is, after reading your description and the significance of the stones I find for me that they are not really the star of the image. You might try a different crop and see if it pleases you. I think I might try cropping most (not all) of the lighter grass off of the bottom it might give the stones more prominence in the image. Although I really think you can do a lot with this shot and still keep it as strong as it is.
Well done and thanks for the history.   Posted: 10/24/2025 22:06:38
