Harvest Moon by Ling Ling Juang

October 2025 - Harvest Moon

About the Image(s)

It’s time for another harvest moon; marking the Autumn Festival day in East Asia. I took this shot last year in a nearby city park. It was quite dark, I removed some illumination lamps. I took this with f5.6, 4 seconds, ISO400. I am going there on Sunday when I can see Saturn with the moon together (according to the news). What shall I do differently? Thanks for your insights.

Hi Ling Ling. You have a great image! I am wondering if you could move to the left a d squat down a bit to place the moon on the flagpole? A square presentation, cropping some off the sky and water may bring the scene a bit closer to the viewer. Try shooting at around f8+ to increase the depth of field which should decrease the focus blur and compensate by using an iso of around 1600. You can use a denoise program to remove any noise. Hope this helps. Have fun playing!!   Posted: 10/12/2025 06:31:21

Hi, Julie,
Thank you for many great ideas to improve this image. I didn't think much, just raised the camera and shot... I should be more contemplative when I take pictures.   Posted: 10/17/2025 19:36:35

Hi Ling Ling, this is beautiful! I like the colors and composition, and how you were able to capture such a big moon. You might want to denoise and crop just a tiny bit off the top, but keep the horizon at the 1/3 line. Are you using a tripod and a cable release so you don't bump the camera by pressing on the shutter button? If you don't have those things, you could put the camera on a wall or ledge and set the timer to take the shot 3 seconds after you press the shutter button.   Posted: 10/17/2025 01:39:16

Hi Ling Ling, what a lovely photo! I like Julie's idea of capturing the moon between things or on top of them. I would crop the left to emphasize the moon. Can't wait to see the next ones.   Posted: 10/17/2025 14:59:35

Nice capture of the moon over the house. I like the slight blur of the flag. But I think there is a slight tilt, a magenta cast plus slightly underexposure which, for me, spoils this image.   Posted: 10/18/2025 19:16:47
