About the Image(s)

We visited Yosemite National Park a couple weeks ago. We had nice weather with varying conditions. On our last evening, as the sun was setting, fog began rolling in over the granite mountains and into the valley. This was the view from our room and I took this image through the window. I used the Nikon Z9, 28-400 lens at 44mm, f/8, 1/160, ISO 1250. Edits were done in camera raw and photoshop using Silver Efex Pro to convert to monochrome. I look forward to your comments and suggestions.

Mary Ann - wow what a view! I didn't know there was a hotel (or anywhere to stay) that close to Tunnel View - which I assumed you took pics from. It was 12 yrs ago we went, so there may have been changes.

Anyway, first I can't tell it's taken through a window. It's very dark! Obvious statement - it was dark when you took it!, but there is a lot of detail in the trees and foreground which could come out. I also think that this view is about the valley towards the sunset. My eye currently keeps going to the right of the tall tree.

I hope you don't mind, but here is a version quickly tweaked - cropped from top and right with a bit greater exposure given to the trees and left hillside and some dehaze added to the sky.

Incredible you took this from where you stayed!   Posted: 11/01/2026 13:00:18

That is my kind of landscape photography! Photo taken from the hotel room at the end of day probably with a beverage of some kind near by. The original is really dark and I am glad you were able to convert to the Mono and enhance some of the detail. This is really a nice image. I love dark, moody shots like this. Have you tried giving the mono just a little more exposure or perhaps increase the whites? Just a little more exposure might allow you to open up the blacks in the trees. Really a nice image Mary Ann!   Posted: 11/01/2026 19:02:04
