About the Image(s)

Again a picture of dance. I hope it is ok for you. Thanks.
I like this picture. During such a shooting (dance spectacle), even if it goes quite to fast to see and understand all the pictures you take, you try to have a good composition with the best light. In this case, I like the darkness and the attitude of the dancer(s?). I have to take time to analyze it, to understand the choreography. I share this experience and feelings with pleasure with you.
It is dark but I wonder if it can still be darker to hide the feet of a dancer and to create a more ? intriguing ? picture?

1/320, f/3,5 ISO 6400 at 102 mm (FF).
LR: Increased - Contrast, Texture, clarity & Dehaze. Square format and cropped a little. I don’t forget (Murphy) the 3 px of frame… It is really necessary.

Vincent, I love your dance images. They are a subject most of us never get to experience. Like many good images I really had to look at this to see what the subject was. If that was your goal you have succeeded! In this image I would not go any darker. If you loose the dancer's feet you will have lost me. If anything, I might try adding some more light on the legs and the foot that is high in the air. A little bit of help understanding the subject of this image might help the viewer appreciate your subject and composition. Very creative image!   Posted: 11/01/2026 19:13:14

Vincent - never fear about choosing dance images here! Yes, I struggled to interpret what I was seeing and this was probably the intent! You succeeded with me!

As to changing this, certainly the feet are required in my view. Then there is the 1/3 view of the lady's face - I'd be inclined to lighten a tad the shadow/dark side a bit. And a change away from full black the chap's top, wherever that is. To me, the confusion stemmed from me mis-understanding the arm which I thought was some tube type thing held by the hand - not!

I would remove the bright spot that's by itself. Whether you adjust this at all really depends whether you wish viewers to understand the scene (with confidence) - as it is, I suspect nobody could be absolutely certain what the scene is.

But a challenge is no bad thing.   Posted: 11/02/2026 10:07:42
