I hate fishing, my dad was a massive fisherman and very good at it, but I would be happy stand hear for hours just watching at the coming and going from Portsmouth harbour. It is very busy with at least 6 large ferries and this Wighlink heading out every hour and then the other craft. We did get excited when the Rayal Navy launch came out a cleared all the public crafts, but nothing happened, and nothing was due.

Nice pensive image! Good tonal range and good blacks. Nice contrast but I wonder what it would look like with a brighter white exposure on the boat. The photo really tells a story!   Posted: 10/07/2025 15:55:04
Paul, nice story here of a fisherman in such a busy harbor! The tones/contrast work very well. I also like how the black and white bring out the dramatic sky. Nice image!   Posted: 10/19/2025 21:35:23
Very nice composition. Well done Paul. Without the fisherman or the boat, there is no more picture.
I like the waves and the cloudy sky, with an interesting shade of grey.   Posted: 10/21/2025 09:18:43

A great conversion to B&W. The composition flow works well with the boat coming in from the right bringing the viewer to the man fishing from the pier. The clouds are an added bonus, add drama and a feel of a cold day even though he is wearing shorts. The detail in the water and throughout make for a sharp image. The is depth created with the different areas, pier, water, boat, buildings, and sky each have their own tone and separation and do not blend together. Very strong image.   Posted: 10/21/2025 21:57:03
I get a chill each time I view your image. You are telling a story of someone who thoroughly enjoys fishing...the hooded rain jacket, the choppy waters and the ominous clouds- all suggest this guy is a fishing fanatic. How you achieved such DOF at f4, I do not know...but it works.   Posted: 10/22/2025 17:30:37
Paul - clear story here. The fisherman looking from bottom left to right with the ferry coming from top right is perfect. I like the detail your work has achieved on the buildings in front of the ferry. Only negative is the amount of water with nothing - but still a well seen and presented image.   Posted: 10/26/2025 05:37:25
