The Wedding Tree by Adi Ben-Senior

October 2025 - The Wedding Tree

About the Image(s)

Grand Tetons last July. The intent is creating a relationship between the tree and its surroundings.
It was a tough composition as there are distractions all over and including neighbouring trees. I had to position the tripod in such an angle to hide all the distractions yet keep the background.
Camera Nikon Z09 with a Nikon 24-120mm zoom lens @f11; S 1/1250 ; iso 400 ; Aperture mode ; Grad ND filter and tripod. lens set @ B&W 100mm focal length.

The B&W ver. of this picture is showing on group 83

Hi Adi - Apologies for attributing the wrong PSA Journal article to you - I meant to commend you for your article "Human Side of Trees" ~ PSA Journal April 2025. I especially enjoyed your Romanian tree images.

Your B&W version has not yet posted in Group 83, but I also could envision this as a good B&W.

I love this tree in silhouette. For your consideration, I've suggested a somewhat tighter crop from the top and bottom to draw viewers to more closely focus on the relationship between this majestic and resilient tree and its surroundings. I also removed one light flower(?) at lower left and slightly lightened and de-saturated the foreground.   Posted: 10/07/2025 00:40:35

Thank you Grace.
Your proposed crop is beautiful. Yet I do not crop pictures in anyway shape or form that are not aligned with the original proportions of the frame 4:6. That is one of the common elements of this project. Glad you enjoyed the article. The book is in publication process currently. Ill keep you posted.   Posted: 10/24/2025 14:32:16

The silhouette brings a different vibe to the color image and makes the tree much more dominate. Since the tree is the subject and being shown inin silhouette a it becomes a study of shape and form. Thus I would crop some of the sky as doing so simply makes the tree even more dominate.   Posted: 10/13/2025 22:40:23

Thx L,
Yes this is exactly the intent: to make the tree the form study and the surrounding - context. Now think of the tree as human... That is the name of the project. The Human Side Of Trees.   Posted: 10/24/2025 14:34:31

I will make it unanimous about cropping down from the top. I like you gave it a sense of place by including the mountains. I would consider removing a few bright nits from the bottom like Grace's flower. The silhouette would work well in B/W. I wonder for the color image if you could leave the tree trunk dark but bring out the green in the leaves to add to the color interest.   Posted: 10/16/2025 20:06:22

There is a lot to like about this image, the colors in the sky are gorgeous, and the mountains as well as the tree are nice and sharp. I do agree with the others that the top should be cropped down. I like Grace's treatment of you image with the bright flower removed. I also like Michaels suggestion that you bring out the green a little more in the leaves but leave the tree trunk dark.   Posted: 10/23/2025 20:54:22

Hi Adi. I like how the tree serves as the main focal point, and the mountains add a nice sense of depth. The crop and the sky work for me since the clouds are visually interesting. However the tree branch brushing the edge of the frame is distracting to me and would suggest removing it.   Posted: 10/25/2025 00:20:54
