October 2025 - Canadian Rockies

About the Image(s)

This is right after sunrise following in time the last image I submitted. To avoid the three deep hordes of selfie takers, I was on a steep ledge on what is called the Rock Pile (part of the mountain) to get an uninterrupted view of the lake and mountains. This is Lake Moraine.

Canon 5D MkII, 17mm, ISO 200, f13, 1/4 sec.

PS I used AI to take out branches from a tree on the right. In this version you can tell I did, but this is from my laptop from the trip. Inefficient, but I redo all images on my desktop. However, I am at the PSA Festival so this is what I have available.

You are making it tough. I love blue hour images and this is another that is equally as good as last month. This has a much different vibe with the alpen glow showing on the peaks. For me that glow makes the difference. The addition of the orange glow creates complimentary colors and this softens the cold feeling of the previous image and makes this feel a bit warm and comfortable.

While I generally like foregrounds I don't feel the limited amount of boulders at the bottom really add much to the composition so my choice would be to just crop them off.   Posted: 10/08/2025 23:04:44

Hi Michael. The colors alone make this image captivating. The golden light illuminating the mountain peaks blends nicely with the clear blue sky. The subtle orange reflections is also a nice complement to the image. The image is sharp and the mountain ridges on both the right and left naturally draw my eye toward the central area where the light hits the mountain. My only suggestion would be to brighten the white at the base of the mountains to create a stronger leading line toward the gold tinted peaks. There is a also small branch on the right side that I would recommend removing. Like Larry, I feel the foreground rocks don't contribute much to the composition. Very nice!   Posted: 10/12/2025 16:18:27

You mean risking my life to include a foreground was not worth it.... I think you are both right, appreciate the comments.   Posted: 10/16/2025 19:43:14

I really like the contrast of the golden light on the mountains with the blue of the shadows on the lake. Personally, I like the foreground, I think it acts as a frame for the lake.   Posted: 10/23/2025 18:48:21

splendid ! the light gradient from dark to bright the layers - all perfect !. Nitpicking:
1. Brighten a bit the fore foreground
2. Clone out the spot on the right side on the margin.   Posted: 10/24/2025 14:02:22
