The Line Up by Carl Johnson

July 2026 - The Line Up

About the Image(s)

While touring Chicago almost a year ago, these three buildings caught my attention due to their diagonal alignment positions. It was a bright sunny day in the city, great weather, with a fantastic textured sky. In this capture, I wanted to bring out the shadows and highlights more through Photoshop, but perhaps it's a bit too contrasty. I used my Fujifilm XT-5 at a 46.6mm, f/5.6, 1/640sec., ISO 125, EXP -0.7, no flash, no tripod.

"On Parade" Looks like a line of troops and parade with its Sargent Major giving the orders off to the side. Works very well in monochrome and great structural detail. The sky is great for the image. Personally I would crop the bushes away at the bottom. Out of interest did you move to the right and take one without the lamppost. Strong.   Posted: 07/15/2026 08:45:02

Thanks Paul for your helpful comment. Actually, I haven't noticed the bushes on the bottom until now and it's a great idea. Yes, I thought lamp post was a little distract, but then that it helps to semi-frame part of the image. Thanks again.   Posted: 07/16/2026 02:13:26

Nice monochrome cityscape Carl. Good lighting and editing. I agree with Paul to crop the bushes away at the bottom.   Posted: 07/15/2026 10:27:06

Thanks Arief for your comment and yes, it's great idea to crop off the bottom bushes, that I hadn't noticed before. Thanks again.   Posted: 07/16/2026 02:15:43
