Party Favors
My wife likes to prepare traditional party favors for special occasions. These would be wrapped with tulle, tied with a ribbon, and have a small Turkish evil eye bead threaded into the bow of the ribbon. I took this shot before the wrapping.
This shot belongs to my long-time interest in shooting collections of objects, either in a jumble, or in a neat array, as in this case.
My main problem was color separation in the conversion to monochrome. Would any of you like to take a crack at it?

This is an interesting composition. I kind of don't like how the bowls on the edges are cut off. Maybe shoot this with just 3 or 4 bowls placed randomly in the field of view.   Posted: 10/03/2025 16:53:48
You are quite right, that is a compositional concern. In this case, I wanted the cut-off composition because that implies that the pattern is infinite. This is also a compositional concern in hand-woven rug designs, to suggest that the central pattern goes on infinitely, and that the we are just looking through a window into a part of the pattern.   Posted: 10/04/2025 23:05:12
Comments are all fine, but I prefer the color version over the mono.   Posted: 10/09/2025 02:45:00
So do I!   Posted: 10/10/2025 06:20:36
Interesting image with circles, ovals and square shapes. Even the small dots on the bowls. After reading your reply to Ed, I understand the cut off edges. I do like the color better.   Posted: 10/21/2025 14:49:18
I think I agree that the multitude of colours is better than the mono version. I think you've got the contrast about right and the number of bowls- it is a pattern picture after all so no one area is more important than any other area. I am impressed at the amount of work done by your wife to produce all these.
Incidentally I tried a Turkish quince recipe this week since we have a bumper crop of quince. Does your wife use quinces?   Posted: 10/22/2025 15:47:18

Ahem! I do most of the cooking in our home.
Yes, it takes a little while to make up the party favors. They are, admittedly, from my wife's tradition, but I prepare them.
About quince, what did you make? Quince makes an excellent jam.   Posted: 10/24/2025 20:17:50

My wife asks if you made compote? She used to have quince compote (with cloves, in a sugar syrup) when she was young.   Posted: 10/25/2025 01:52:06
