About the Image(s)

This log pile is behind a local Neapolitan pizzarea. The ovens are wood fired and bake at 750 degrees - which requires a LOT of wood. Rather than have the traditional wood pile behind the restaurant, they have created this artistic but functional one. This was taken with my iPhone, 3.99 mm, f/1.8, 1/433 sec. In Photoshop I cropped and straightened, cloned out the wires and yellow electric box above, and saved for web. By the way, they make award-winning pizzas in the oven.

Thank you for the story that goes with the picture Audrey!   Posted: 10/15/2025 05:15:27

I have never in my life seen a wood pile like this. Fabulous sculpture and nice capture.   Posted: 10/16/2025 14:24:59

I like this and see a lot of different ways it could be photographed. I would love to see this converted to a black and white image with a tighter crop focusing on just the woodpile, straight on at a lower angle, but you would loose the context of the woodpile as a vital ingredient of the pizza production going on in the background. Nice job.   Posted: 10/19/2025 12:19:02

A very nice scene. Capturing designs made of common materials is always interesting. I like the color and sharpness, but I agree with Jeremy that a straight on shot from a little lower angle could be an improvement but you do loose the context with the pizza shop. I also would work on the right side where the pile is a little cut off.   Posted: 10/19/2025 14:47:18

I agree about the cut-off edge of the pile. When I looked at the original I went back and forth about the right side: do I cut off the edge of the log pile, or do I clone over the big silver utility box? I was not happy with losing the edge of the pile, but there didn't seem to be enough of a decent clone source to work with, so I took the easy way out. Looking at it again, I think I could have cropped up to the edge of the pile and cloned over the remaining sliver on the right. Thanks for catching me on that one.   Posted: 10/23/2025 03:16:51
