About the Image(s)
In Baeza, Ecuador I was stunned to wander into a flock of male Cock-of-the-Rock beauties. They were all talking to one another. Craig and I were the only ones there. What an incredible memory.
There wasn't enough light, and none came out for a perfect shot, but it was what it was.
Taken with Canon EOS 90D, f/7.1, 1/200, ISO 1000.

This one shows the brilliant colours off very well. I am struggling to see the beak, which is my only regret with an otherwise fine image!   Posted: 10/09/2025 15:37:37
You nor anyone else will see the beak. I've seen a lot of photos of these guys, and it's always hidden in the feathers when the crest is up.   Posted: 10/09/2025 22:10:56
Leslie,
Too bad you have to go all the way to Ecuador to see these beautiful looking birds. I wonder if the tail is as outstanding and the rest of this Cock-of-the-Rock.   Posted: 10/10/2025 22:52:35

Leslie, I don't agree with you. I think your Cock-of-the-Rock is a near perfect in the wild shot. Perfectly cropped and your bird is sharp as a tack. You sure go to some amazing places.   Posted: 10/11/2025 13:35:08
Leslie, what a beautifully colored black and red bird with such an unusually shaped crest. I think I do see the tip of its beak. The branch, moss and leaves along with the background do make this a great natural setting. Very nice shot.   Posted: 10/12/2025 21:27:10
What a beautiful bird. How lucky you were to capture it. Well cropped. Good job.   Posted: 10/25/2025 13:06:08
