Greylag Geese Arrival by Mike Cowdrey, MPSA

October 2025 - Greylag Geese Arrival

About the Image(s)

Taken yesterday at Straw's Bridge lake, Derbyshire UK. I was just packing up
when about 60 Greylags arrived and I managed to take a sequence of shots
as they flew in, and landed.

Nikon D750, Sigma 150-500 (at 230), AP F9, ISO 1250.

I like the migratory entry. They are lovely geese and you caught the action well. Separation of the birds, colors and focus good. So glad you didn't have to cut any in half to fit the frame.   Posted: 10/09/2025 22:09:30

Mike,
First sighting of the Greylag Geese. The species are great communicators and aviators. I love to hear the calls and the takeoff and landings in formation. Focus is well-done and you picked the correct shutter speed.   Posted: 10/10/2025 22:48:01

Beautiful Straw Bridge Lake image Mike. Wish I had that lake near me! The background really makes all the geese pop. Great job freezing action and having sharpness where needed. Quite striking!   Posted: 10/11/2025 13:28:19

This is a very pleasing image to look at Mike. The group of geese with full open wings in flight, good distance from each other and each bird very sharp. The background color works well with this image with no distractions. Very nice Mike.   Posted: 10/12/2025 20:49:39
