About the Image(s)

I photographed this scene at Union Station in Washington, D.C. with a Nikon D850 and a 16-35 mm lens set to 24 mm (f/11, 1/2500 sec, ISO 800). I was drawn to how the afternoon light carved bold patterns across the arches, creating a striking contrast between brightness and shadow. At just the right moment, a woman in beige and black stepped into the illuminated path, standing out while others remained in darkness. It was a fleeting intersection of geometry, light, and human presence. The image was minimally adjusted and cropped in Lightroom Classic.

Svetlana, welcome to our group! I love "just at the right moment" images! The image is sharp where is needs to be and offers us both drama and intrigue. You have done a great job capturing the contrast without blowing out the lights. Having the figure in the light takes this image above and beyond.   Posted: 10/04/2025 21:35:05

Thank you, Terry, for the warm welcome and for you kind words about my photo! I love those moments when a subject enters the frame after a patient wait!   Posted: 10/06/2025 20:06:58

Svetlana, I welcome you too. Your crescendo of light makes this image great, with a well-lit person standing in it. And I like that you lightened the whites. It would have been better if the people in the shadows in front of her had moved out of the way, but they hardly show and we can't get perfection in "candid" photos.   Posted: 10/18/2025 10:38:25

Great shot and location. The image is sharp, where needs to be. The details in highlight area were captured well. To me, the first person in the image add more story to the image. He is in a wheel chair, but it is not clear. If you can selectively adjust the shadows for that person, it may look better. I just tried a quick trial also increased the shadows overall too.   Posted: 10/21/2025 14:31:00
